A single loudness number cannot tell you whether dialogue is understandable or a mix is balanced. Listen, repair specific problems, balance the program and use measurements to verify the delivery requirement.
Understand the measurement
- Peak vs loudness normalization — what the gain change actually controls
- LUFS, true peak and dialogue delivery — separate measurements and real targets
A useful delivery routine
Choose the recipient’s target or document your own house target. Measure the complete delivery range, inspect peaks and listen after processing. Reopen the encoded file, because timeline meters describe a different stage of the workflow.
Plan storage and timing
- Audio file size calculator — PCM and compressed audio use different formulas
- Audio sync diagnosis — distinguish fixed offsets from progressive drift
Examples on this site are identified as examples. There is no universal platform loudness target claimed for every upload.
